‘Yes We Did’: 8 Inspiring Quotes From Obama’s Farewell Speech

United States President Barack Obama delivered his farewell speech on Tuesday night.

He thanked the nation for supporting him during his consecutive terms as POTUS. He also encouraged those demoralised by the election of Donald Trump to be optimistic about the future of the country.

Obama's valedictory speech in his hometown of Chicago was a public meditation on the trials and triumphs, promises kept and promises broken that made up his eight years in the White House.

In his speech at Chicago's main convention center, Obama talked about how his experience in the city – at the start of his political career – taught him that change happens from the grassroots.

Here are eight of the most inspiring quotes made by the President in his speech.

On the Need to Act on Climate Change

On Peaceful Transfer of Power to Trump

While his speech was powerful for the most, by the end of it Obama was seen wiping away his tears as the crowd embraced him one last time.

Obama ended his speech by invoking his famous campaign slogan: “Yes we can”. “Yes we did,” he said, to loud cheers.
