India sent their largest ever shooting contingent to the Rio Games, but what was the result? The contingent returned empty handed.

India has been winning at least one medal at the shooting events for the past three Olympics – Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won a silver at Athens in 2004, Abhinav Bindra won India’s first individual bronze at Beijing in 2008 and Vijay Kumar and Gagan Narang won a silver and a bronze respectively at the London Olympics in 2012.

However, in Rio, nine of the twelve participants didn’t even make it to the finals of their respective events. The closest to a medal was Abhinav Bindra, who finished fourth in his farewell Olympics.
