This was the moment that a group of safari tourists were approached by an elephant that wanted to get in on the action.
Thomas Chan, 20, from California, USA, was in a safari jeep with a guide when a bull elephant approached their guide convoy.
The mammoth beast had been inspecting a nearby van full of students from Thomas’ university, Azusa Pacific, when he turned his attention to the jeep.
At their closest point, Thomas was less than an arm’s length away from the elephant and described it as one of the most adrenaline-fueled events of his life.
At the time, the bull had been following several females and their calves, making their way across the planes in a wild game reserve, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
And, amazingly, even after getting into shot for a selfie, the elephant appeared to reach out with its trunk so it could have a go operating the camera.
