The annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin from 2 July. Equipped with surveillance cameras, the drones will be used to monitor the base camp of the sacred yatra. The monitoring is being done to prevent terrorist attacks and ensure tight security.

Providing security to this year’s Amarnath Yatra is a major security and intelligence challenge for state and central agencies because of the recent spurt of violence by separatist militants.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will arrive in Jammu on Friday for a two-day visit to review the security situation in the state, including security arrangements for this year’s Yatra.

Beginning on Saturday, this year’s 48-day Yatra will end on 18 August and will coincide with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
