Irom Sharmila, who has been protesting the AFSPA in Manipur through her fast of 16 long years, today announced she will no longer fight the fight through fasts, but through elections instead. She’ll be most likely contesting as an independent. Sharmila’s decision is likely to have a huge impact on Manipur’s political scene.
