Pakistan’s military says it’s test-fired a surface-to-surface ballistic missile – one that can carry a nuclear warhead and reach all corners of India, as well as the Middle East and other places.

Friday’s testing comes just two days after Islamabad hosted Heart of Asia, a regional peace conference that called for the resumption of negotiations between the Kabul government and the Taliban.

The military says the test meant to “validate various design and technical parameters” of the Shaheen-III, which was first test-fired in March.

The statement also says the missile’s impact was in the Arabian Sea. Shaheen-III has a maximum range of 2,750 kilometres (1,700 miles).

Lt. Gen Mazhar Jamil, who attended the launch, said Pakistan desires peaceful co-existence of nations in the region.

Pakistan became a declared nuclear power in 1998.
