AIADMK Chief VK Sasikala has clearly forgotten her own journey from the days before she knew Jayalalithaa and her meteoric rise to power within the AIADMK after Jaya made her an ally, dotted with the many times that she had fallen out with Amma.
The Supreme Court has convicted VK Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case on Tuesday. The apex court also ordered her to serve the remaining part of her four-year jail term and imposed a Rs 10 crore fine.
The verdict also disqualifies Sasikala from contesting the elections. This means that she will need to serve almost four years in prison, and can only contest the polls six years after being released.
When the recent tussle to get to the CM’s chair in TN had become rather unsavoury, this is what Sasikala had said of her political rival O Panneerselvam.
All these years, I have lived for Amma and would spend the rest of the life fulfilling her dreams. For 33 years, how many happenings, how many shocks. I have faced the many betrayals along with Amma. We had won those, we will win this,” she said and invoked MGR’s legacy to face the situation with grit. Even if betrayal and rivalry join hands, we will defeat them.VK Sasikala, AIADMK Chief
