The scuffle came to a halt after the intervention of Raje's security personnel who dragged Shekhawat off the stage.

WHY IT MATTERS

This isn't the first string of controversies faced by the Raje government in Rajasthan before the approaching state Assembly polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) founding member Jaswant Singh’s son Manvendra Singh quit the party on Saturday, 22 September, at a Swabhiman rally in Rajasthan’s Barmer.

The Gaurav Yatra, held by the ruling party to showcase its achievements in the run-up to the elections, has also been the subject of much controversy lately. The yatra flagged off by Amit Shah on 4 August from Charbhuja Temple in Rajsamand district was to cover at least 165 constituencies across the state before finally concluding on 30 September in Pushkar near Ajmer.

However, the Opposition Congress had alleged that the BJP is misusing government machinery to ensure the yatra's success, and demanded the suspension of the yatra, IANS reported.

The Rajasthan High Court on 5 September directed the BJP to keep it free from government programmes. The high court also said that various programmes which were being organised in the name of the state government during the yatra should be stopped.
