In keeping with the Centre’s big digital push, the Indian Railways have introduced Point of Sales machines (POS) at the Bhopal Railway station. Passengers can now use credit and debit cards to purchase railway tickets directly from three POS-enabled counters that have been set up at the station.
The move has been welcomed by customers who otherwise had to wait in ATM queues to withdraw money for their commute. “It is a small step towards a larger goal,” Vandana Varma, a passenger told news agency ANI.
Earlier, we had to scramble for change. Now I can purchase tickets without having to worry about cash.Vandana Varma, Passenger
Similar services have been introduced at the Allahabad Railway station in Uttar Pradesh.
The Railways now plans to introduce more such POS machines across its extensive network spread throughout the length and breadth of the country.
In addition to cash counters, the Railways will also set up POS-enabled counters at each and every corner of the country.Anil Kumar Saxena, Additional DG (PR), Indian Railways
