1. In Junaid’s Khandawli Village, Muslims’ Anger is Shrouded in Fear

Saira Bano’s light grey eyes are lightless. With her dupatta, now also her shroud that covers her head, Saira sits upright on a cot, narrating for the umpteenth time, in a nasal drone, the last time she saw and spoke to her 16-year-old son Junaid who wanted some money to make purchases for Eid-ul-Fitr.

That was on 22 June. By evening of that fateful day Junaid was dead – insulted for being a Muslim, beaten and then stabbed multiple times by a mob on a train which was taking him and his elder brother Hashim back to Khandawli village in Haryana’s Ballabhgarh tehsil.

Thousands Participate in the #NotInMyName Protests

On 28 June, thousands gathered across the country to protest against mob lynchings. Triggered by Junaid’s lynching, the #NotinMyName protests took place in major cities of India, including Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

A poster designed by graphic artist Orijit Sen showing a pair of chappals stained with blood has come to be the symbol of the protest.

2. Nehru Port Among Systems Hit By Fresh Global Ransomware Attack

On 27 June, a ransomware attack hit computers across the world, crippling multi-national shipping and ad firms. Employees were actually asked to go back home because the systems just weren't working!
