Opposition Discusses Prez Candidate at Sonia Gandhi’s Lunch Meet

Congress President Sonia Gandhi hosted a luncheon for leaders of the Opposition in the Parliament Complex on Friday. The topic of discussion at the meeting was the Presidential Elections slated for July.

If acceptable, consensual candidates do not emerge, the opposition parties shall decide to field such persons who shall steadfastly defend the constitutional values of our republic.

As many as 17 representatives from several parties attended the meeting, which took place on the day the Narendra Modi-led BJP government is celebrating three years in power.

Current President Pranab Mukherjee is all set to end his term in July. The frontrunners for the post are Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson and former West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, and former JD(U) President Sharad Yadav.
