Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan has issued an appeal to his followers, asking them to maintain peace ahead of the verdict in the rape case against him.

In a video released late on 24 August, he said:
I appeal to everyone, I had previously asked you all to remain patient and peaceful. I had also asked you not to go to Panchkula. All Dera Premis in Panchkula, please return home. I am slated to hear the verdict, I will go myself for it. All of us should respect the law, and maintain peace.
This appeal comes hours after the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect took to social media, on 24 August, to post a message, urging for peace.
