With the #MeToo movement rising in India, some of the most well-known politicians, actors, directors and authors have all been called out on sexual harassment charges. Their response? To lash out at the movement.

While author Chetan Bhagat called the movement a "smear campaign" and author Ira Trivedi's claims against him "false and motivated", actor Alok Nath retaliated by pressing a defamation charge against survivor Vinta Nanda, who had accused him of raping her.

Director Subhash Ghai reiterated his denial of sexual harassment charges, despite Kate Sharma filing an official complaint against him today. Union Minister MJ Akbar, who's been accused of harassment by multiple women, in a statement, rubbished all their claims and has gone back to work as usual. He too, has filed a defamation case against Priya Ramani, which is expected to be heard on Tuesday, 16 October.

4. Do Women of Kerala Want to Go to Sabarimala Temple?

The countdown has begun. In just a few days, the gates of the Sabarimala temple will be opened to all men and women. But for this, many in Kerala are fuming.

On 28 September, a five-judge Constitution bench headed by former chief justice Dipak Misra lifted the ban on the entry of women of all ages into the shrine.

Speaking to The Quint, many young women said that they believe that ‘regressive’ traditions have to change and this order has been long overdue. Some say that it is high time we stop looking at women as impure beings and accept menstruation as just another bodily function.

“No one can restrict us from entering any place. It is our right to go where we want to. Just because we are female and go through menstruation from the age of 15-45, we are not able to go to temples. I don’t see any logic here,” said Hashifa from Kannur.
