The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday claimed that Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was recently sentenced to death by a military court in Pakistan, was kidnapped a year ago. Addressing media persons in New Delhi, MEA Spokesperson Gopal Baglay also clarified that the centre has no information on the location, and the present condition of Jadhav, who New Delhi claims to be a former Indian Navy Officer.
Referring to Islamabad’s lacklustre response to 13 demarches sent by the Indian Foreign Ministry, Baglay noted that the lack of consular access to Jadhav indicated how weak the charges against him are. The same point was stressed upon my External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Parliament this week.
Pakistan says that Jadhav is an Indian spy who also holds an Indian passport – a charge repeatedly made by Islamabad to sharpen its claim. Responding to this claim, Baglay asked as to why would a spy carry his original passport with him?
