"It has been 4 years and nothing has changed for us. We are yet to get justice” say the distraught parents of the 16 December, 2012 gangrape victim.
On that fateful day, Jyoti Singh, a physiotherapy intern was gangraped in a moving bus. 11 days after the assault, ‘Nirbhaya’ succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in Singapore. Four year later, her parents still await justice.
“I remember her in my sleep and when I wake up. Even when we sit with our friends, we talk about her. What was her fault? What wrong did we do to deserve this?” Badrinath, the father of the victim, says in a choked voice.
Six people were convicted in the case. One of the convicts, Ram Singh, died in police custody. Three years after the incident, a juvenile rapist was released, after serving the maximum sentence for juveniles under Indian Penal Code. Four others have been sentenced to death.
