Baloch activists held a protest on 13 September 2016 outside the United Nations headquarters in New York City, USA. They demanded that the UN take cognisance of the alleged human rights violations taking place in Balochistan at the hands of the Pakistani government and armed forces.

The peaceful demonstration was organised by the Free Balochistan Movement, during the 71st General Assembly meetings which were taking place in the UNHQ, as a way to highlight some of the issues facing the state today.

A group of about 20 demonstrators and organisers met for the demonstration, some of whom were seeking political asylum or were granted political asylum in the US.  Others say they had family or friends who were directly impacted by violence in the region.

The Free Balochistan Movement’s goal is to seek independence from Pakistan.
