At least 80 people have been killed and 100 injured in the southern French town of Nice when a truck was rammed into a crowd celebrating the Bastille Day national holiday on Thursday night.
The driver, who drove at 50 kilometres per hour for over 100 metres along the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront before hitting the mass of spectators, was shot dead. Officials said weapons and grenades were found inside the 25-tonne, unmarked articulated truck.
The attack is suspected to have been orchestrated by the Islamic State. Although the driver has not yet been identified yet, media sources confirmed that he was a 31-year-old resident of Nice with dual French-Tunisian citizenship.
