The issue of a farmer’s death in Delhi generated heat in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. Congress leaders gave a notice for an adjournment motion on the matter.

Congress members K C Venugopal, Rajeev Satav, Deepender Singh Hooda and Ravneet Singh Bittu have given notices to adjourn the Question Hour in the House.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on the floor of the House that politicians remained bystanders as a man took his life at the rally on Wednesday.

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu also that it was an unfortunate incident and agreed that there should be a discussion on the issue in the Parliament.

In an attempt to stop the chaos in the House, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said, “I will allow a discussion on this. And if something good comes out it that will be great. I will give all of you the chance to make your points at 12 PM”. She also requested that the issue not be politicised.

I am myself concerned about what happened at the rally yesterday. I think all of us here, who are the pillars of democracy, were responsible. This matter will be discussed.
– Sumitra Mahajan, Lok Sabha Speaker

When the Opposition refused to budge, Mahajan lashed out at the leaders that no one saved the farmer at the rally but were active in creating ruckus in the Parliament.

Gajendra Singh, a distressed farmer from Dausa in Rajasthan, died on Wednesday in full public view and in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at an Aam Aadmi Party rally.

The suicide by the farmer triggered a blame game with AAP and BJP attacking each other over the tragedy, while the Congress targeted both the parties and demanded registration of a case of abetment to suicide against the Centre and Delhi governments.
