The Sri Lankan Ambassador was attacked by a group of people at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Monday.

Malaysian Police said that five people have been arrested for the attack and that they are investigating the motive.

The attack on High Commissioner was allegedly carried out by the LTTE sympathisers, who were protesting against former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit. Rajapaksa called it an attack against the government, reported PTI.

Almost 100 ethnic Indian protesters had gathered in Kuala Lumpur last week to rally against former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was attending an international conference, local media reported.

The Sri Lankan government expressed concern over the incident and asked for an explanation, saying it was “disappointing that the Malaysian authorities failed to provide necessary protection.”
