Take Care Of...
1. The Basics:
Before starting your bike, check the air pressure in both the tyres, front and rear brakes, both side indicators, and head and tail lamps.
2. Helmet:
Just for the sake of avoiding penalty, stop buying cheap helmets. You'll spend Rs 50,000 on a bike, but when it comes to your head's safety, why be so thrifty? Kindly buy an ISI-certified helmet and always wear it while riding.
3. Insurance:
A third-party cover insurance is mandatory. Sounds like rocket science? Well, third party cover means that if tomorrow you accidentally damage someone's vehicle then your insurance company will pay them for the damages incurred. So, renew your papers on time and always carry them with you.
4. Documents:
Your RC documents are not meant to be kept at home, so, carry them with you always, and in case you are feeling old-school, download the mParivahan app. Type in your RC number in the search box and tada! Your RC details will be shown. Now, save these details on the dashboard provided in the app itself. And the next time when the cop asks you for the papers show him/her the digital copy on the app. Don't worry, as per the guidelines issued by the Transport Ministry, this digital copy is acceptable everywhere.
What Not to Do
1. Rash Driving:
Say bye to rash driving and hi to speed limits. The issue is that everyone here is in a rush but nobody reaches on time. LOL.
2. Overtaking:
If you are right then act right. Meaning, overtake a vehicle always from the right. And, before overtaking, turn on the indicator and honk the horn.
3. Answering Calls:
If you are riding with your earphones on, you are a fool. If you are taking a call while riding, then you are in for an accident. While riding, your attention should be on the bike and the road.
4. Tripling:
A bike is meant for carrying two people so have some mercy on the tyres, brakes, suspensions and don't do tripling.
Now, you must be wondering; Babua, we already know these safety checks then why repeat? It's because just like you, my friend too knew all this. Yet one day, he chose to drive rashly without a helmet. He called me up on his way saying "I'll be there in 5 minutes" but I've been waiting ever since.
