Ramesh Valanju drowned while trying to save three girls who were swept away by a high tide in Mumbai’s Bandstand area in the suburb of Bandra. A driver by profession, the 37-year-old father of three, didn’t think twice before jumping into the sea to rescue the girls. While he managed to save two of them, Ramesh himself drowned when he returned to rescue the third. His family is still coming to terms with the loss of a real hero, who had reportedly saved over 30 lives over the years from the ravages of the sea.
