The absconding father of the two minor girls who were rescued in a heart-wrenching condition has been arrested. Identified as Bunty Gupta, the 36-year old man has also been charged with the murder of his two-year old son.

Gupta left his two minor daughters in the house and took the son away with him on 18 August. He threw the child in the canal. The body of the child was recovered on the same day but nobody came forward to claim the body. We had even gone to Sonipat to identify the child but didn’t get any clue.

Bunty Gupta was arrested on Saturday night at around 1 am from Nepali Colony. He told the police that his wife took their son with her but later returned him to Gupta.

The accused was worried about being able to fend for his children.

“He said he did not have money to even feed his children. He was not in a position to feed them or get them adequate treatment for their wounds,” said an officer.

His two daughters, aged 8 and 3, were forced to live in a dark, locked room devoid of ventilation in outer Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area after being deserted by their drunkard father, were rescued with deep wounds due to maggot infection.

The two girls were left alone in their rented house at Radha Vihar of Nepali Colony, allegedly by their drunkard father on 17 August, they said.

After a foul smell started emanating from the house, neighbours made a PCR call on 19 August and the two girls were rescued from the house. They were infested with maggots and had other skin infections, police said.

The room had no ventilation and it was a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The girls had also not eaten for days and were on the verge of death when they were rescued, a police official said.

They were admitted to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital and are currently out of danger, police said.

Police teams have been formed to trace the parents.

The girls’ father, Bunty, from Uttar Pradesh, used to work as a labourer and spend all his earnings on alcohol. His is currently unemployed.

Police have registered a case under sections 317 IPC (abandonment of child under 12 years by parents or guardian) and 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Once the girls are in better condition, we will produce them before CWC.

Bunty was married to Jyoti who left him two months ago for another man. She also took their five-year old son with her.

Bunty used to beat his wife frequently and scolded his daughters after their mother left.

He deserted his mother who is employed as a household maid in areas around Tis Hazari Subzi Mandi. She stays at a night shelter.

On being contacted by the police to take custody of the girls, she expressed her inability to do so.

Help has been pouring in for the girls in form of money for the girls. But at the moment, the police is looking after them.
