The seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams will be dearly missed at the All England Club this year while she delivers her baby.

Every time the mega grass-court event comes around there are two names that most tennis fans look for – Roger Federer in the men’s draw and Serena Williams in the women’s draw.

Federer will be back in a Grand Slam event after taking a break from the French Open, but Serena will not be able to defend her singles and ladies’ doubles titles at SW19.

However, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion created quite a storm off the court with the cover image of the Vanity Fair magazine for the August 2017 issue.

The American has been a champion (singles) at the All England Club for two successive years, but now a new champion will emerge.

  • Wimbledon has been a special place for Serena Williams’ career. She has won a whopping 14 titles across singles (7), ladies’ doubles (6) and mixed doubles (1).
  • Serena’s first-ever Grand Slam title win came at Wimbledon when she and her partner Max Mirnyi (Belarus) won the mixed doubles draw in 1998.
  • Williams won her first Wimbledon ladies’ doubles title in 2000 with her sister Venus. The sisters have gone on to win in 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016 thereafter.
  • When she won her first Wimbledon singles title in 2002, Serena went on to win all four Grand Slam singles titles in a row from the 2002 French Open to 2003 Australian Open.
  • Serena made history in 2016, when she equalled Steffi Graf’s record for the most singles titles (22) in the open era.

With Serena Williams missing out, many players can move into the tournament expecting to go all the way. They can concentrate on their game rather than worry about how dominant Serena has been over the years.
