Microsoft is testing a new feature for android smartphone users where they will be able to receive smartphone notifications on the desktop. These will include most of the notifications besides WhatsApp messages, various app notifications and alerts.

The company is working on the update through a application called “Your Phone” which can be downloaded both via the Microsoft App store and the Google Play Store.

The app was initially launched in 2018, and allows users to see pictures and read messages they receive on the phone.

This grants the users the convenience of not having to take out their smartphone every time they receive a notification. It can easily be viewed on the PC’s display via this feature.

Users who are testing the feature need devices running Android 7.0 Nougat with at least 1GB RAM. Even Android Go smartphone support this feature.

According to reports, you cannot respond to the notifications, but this could really help the apps which don’t have a presence at all on the desktop.

The feature is being tested as part of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18885 (20H1).

“Boost your focus and productivity by seeing your phone’s notifications on your PC. You are in control and manage which apps you want to receive notifications from. Dismiss a notification on one device and it goes away on the other,” Microsoft wrote in a blog-post.

When we tried using the feature we were stuck in the middle of the installation process and couldn’t install the app completely to test out. The application did not sync with the smartphone and had problems with notifications permissions.

Since the feature is still in its testing phase, hopefully it will be fully functional in the days to come.
