Two years after their latest adventure in ancient Scotland, Asterix and Obelix are raring to go. In the latest installment of the series, Asterix and the Missing Scroll, the two best friends won’t quite be fighting the Romans on their own. In a propaganda war, for which menhirs and magic potions may be inadequate equipment, the Gauls are joined by Confoundtheirpolitix.
Confoundtheirpolitix has been inspired by WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange. Confoundtheirpolitix will resist Roman occupation with Asterix and his tribe, in the 36th installment of the hugely popular comic book series.
Author Jean-Yves Ferri and illustrator Didier Conrad, who took over from Albery Uderzo and Rene Goscinny in 2013 said that several new characters have been inspired by real people.
This isn’t the first time pop culture cameos and public figures have found their way into Asterix comics. In extremely clever caricatures, Laurel and Hardy have appeared as themselves and Sean Connery has appeared as Doubleosix in Asterix and the Black Gold for a whopping million pounds.
The Asterix comics books, created in 1959, have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide.
Asterix and the Missing Scroll will be released on 22 October.
