Facebook’s ambitious free WiFi in India plan is set for a much needed push thanks to its partnership with various Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Facebook is clearly keen on getting its Express WiFi project up and running at the earliest.
For this, Facebook is now tapping into the pool of ISPs available in the India who’ll act as the medium to widen the reach of Express WiFi.
Earlier this year, Facebook had bought data bandwidth from BSNL to cover 125 rural areas for Rs 10 crore, spanning the next three years. The Internet service called Express WiFi will be served to consumers via WiFi hotspots with speeds up to 2MBp/s.

It has been stated that the cost of using the Express WiFi will be as low as Rs 10. Facebook is said to have worked on a connectivity ecosystem that will make it easier for people in the rural areas to get connected to the internet.
The Internet service provided by Facebook via BSNL should encourage local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in parts of the country where quality internet service has been lacking.
Facebook isn’t the only major tech company focused on getting billions of Indians connected. Google has rolled out a similar WiFi project that is currently available in 15 railway stations in India.
