Online shopping brands like Flipkart, Amazon are not taking cash on delivery (COD) orders, and asking consumers to make payments via debit/credit card or internet banking.
Even cab aggregators like Uber have asked consumers to pay their rides digitally, or through the accepted set of denominations.
Flipkart hasn’t shared its official statement on the matter, but we managed to check their site for order, and this is the message we got.
While Uber has also come out with a statement asking customers to pay digitally, Ola drivers have been instructed not to take cash of the discontinued denominations.
We request our riders to link their Uber account to digital payment methods or carry smaller denomination currency for a seamless experience.Uber statement
Currently, we have temporarily stopped cash as a payment option for new orders. Customers that had already placed COD orders before midnight 8/11 can pay for their orders using debit or credit cards or currency of valid denominations.Amazon India statement
Koovs has also sent over SMS to its customers, notifying them about the changes in place.
It has become evident that digital payment wallets are set to flourish in the coming months. It remains to be seen how the flow of the new currency denominations takes place.
