Ramakant Achrekar - Dronacharya award-winning coach and mentor - passed away at the age of 86. He passed away due to old-age related issues in Mumbai.
The legendry coach was the childhood guru of Indian cricketing great - Sachin Tendulkar. He mentored Tendulkar at the very start of his cricketing career and taught him the basics of the sport.

The cricketing freternity expressed their sympathy and offered condolences to the family of Achrekar.
Not only did he produce great cricketers, but also trained them to be fine human beings, wrote the BCCI as they remembered Achrekar. The Mumbai Cricket Association also offered their condolences to the Ramakant Achrekar’s family.
VVS Laxman thanked Ramakan Achrekar for providing Indian cricket with a “jewel”.
Actor Aamir Khan also expressed sadnees upon hearing about the passing away of Achrekar.
Achrekar was reponsible for producing many international and first class cricketers. He coached the likes of Vinod Kambli, Amol Mazumdar, Ramesh Powar and Ajit Agarkar amongst others.
Achrekar had played only one first class match but created a reputation for himself by coaching budding cricketers.
