India’s new wonder girl, the only woman gymnast in the history of Olympics Dipa Karmakar is believed to be recommended for the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, with the decision set to come out on Thursday.
According to a report by India Today, Dipa will receive the highest sporting honour from President Pranab Mukherjee on National Sports Day. Name of her coach and trainer Bisweshwar Nandi has also been suggested for the Dronacharya award.
Dipa, who participated in her maiden summer games, stood 4th in the finals of the gymnastic finals. She scored 15.066 and missed out on the bronze medal by a whisker.
Ace shooter Jitu Rai’s name was also reportedly recommended for the Khel Ratna award.
