South Korea and North Korea might be at loggerheads with each other but the athletes of both countries have displayed inspiring sportsmanship.
In a rare moment that’s probably going to go down in the history of both the countries and the Olympics, young gymnasts Lee Eun-ju of South Korea and Hong Un-Jong of North Korea posed for an adorable selfie in between their events at the ongoing Rio Olympics on Sunday.
Since the division of Korea after second World War, it isn’t only geopolitical relations that have soured; the nations share an unhealthy competitive rivalry as well.
However, the interaction between the young athletes at the Rio games reignites the belief that sports allows people to set aside differences, to play the game in the “true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honour of our teams.”
