Ravichandran Ashwin’s 2016 could not have ended on a better note. After sweeping the International Cricket Council awards and a great year on the cricket pitch, the Indian off-spinner was blessed with a baby girl on 21 December.
The parents, however, chose to make the news public only on Monday, when the Indian offie’s wife Prithi tweeted out about "carrom baby number two". A “carrom ball” is one of Ashwin’s premier bowling variations.
Prithi said the baby had waited out a state-wide shutdown due to Cyclone Vardah and the Test match at Chepauk.
The new mom also clarified that they chose to keep the news under wraps as they didn’t want to overshadow Ashwin’s ICC Cricketer of the Year win.
Akhira’s Little Sister
Ashwin’s first daughter Akhira was born in June last year.
'Better Things’
After receiving flak for not thanking limited-overs captain MS Dhoni on social media after his ICC Awards win, Ashwin had just one request. “One small request, please do not tag my wife in all your funny tweets. She has better things to look after, although I am over it,” said Ashwin. Now we also know what "better things" Prithi had to look after!
