1. RCB Stay in Hunt After Pipping KXIP by 1 Run

Murali Vijay’s captain knock went in vain as Royal Challengers Bangalore snatched a nerve-wracking 1-run win victory over Kings XI Punjab at Mohali on Monday.

Chasing a target of 176, KXIP were cruising along with Vijay smashing 89 off 57 balls but Chris Jordan managed to hold his nerve as he gave away 15 runs in the final over in which the home team needed 17 runs to clinch the game. The final scorecard was 174 for four.

Needing 4 off the last delivery, Marcus Stoinis (34 off 22 balls) could take only two as Virat Kohli was delirious with joy the moment the match ended.

The win takes RCB to the sixth position with 8 points from 9 games as they still have a chance of qualifying for playoffs while KXIP with six points from 10 games look all but out of the tournament.

Earlier, Virat Kohli had a one of his rarest failures in recent times as Royal Challengers Bangalore scored an impressive 175/6 against Kings XI Punjab riding on AB de Villiers’ stroke-filled 64 off 35 balls.

Skipper Kohli, who has been the fastest to reach 500 runs in an IPL season, was out for 20 as it was De Villiers’ late surge that saw RCB’s total gain momentum on a track which was getting slower with the passage of time.

3. Michel Platini Resigns as UEFA President

Michel Platini resigned from his role as the head of European soccer federation UEFA after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday reduced suspended UEFA President Michel Platini’s six-year ban from soccer for ethics violations to four years, saying the original punishment from FIFA was too severe.

I take note of today’s decision from CAS but I see it as a profound injustice. This decision inflicts a suspension on me that, as luck would have it, stops me from contesting the next election for the FIFA presidency. As agreed with the national associations, I am resigning from my duties as UEFA president to pursue my battle in front of the Swiss courts to prove my innocence in this case. Life is always full of surprises: I am henceforth available to experience more of them.

4. FSDL Appeals to Commission Against 15-Point Deduction of FC Goa

With a 15-point deduction set to turn FC Goa’s next ISL football campaign into an exercise in futility, the organisers Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) a joint venture between IMG-Reliance and Star India, has appealed to members of Regulatory Commission to reconsider their decision.

If FC Goa starts with a points tally of minus 15, it would effectively mean a seven-team league as the Zico-coached team will practically not have any chance of making to knock-out stage even if they win all 14 matches.

FSDL feels that it would be uncompetitive for the team to start their Hero ISL 2016 season with a negative 15 points and will undoubtedly affect the morale of the team as well as the fans.
Press Release from the Organisers

Indian Super League side FC Goa were slapped with a whopping fine of Rs 11 crore and docked 15 points in the next season on Thursday while their co-owners Shrinivas Dempo and Dattaraj Salgaocar were banned for two and three seasons respectively for “bringing disrepute” to the tournament.

The ISL Regulatory Commission took the decisions after the conclusion of the hearings in Mumbai relating to the controversy surrounding the scuffle between Chennaiyin FC’s Brazillian marquee player Elano Blumer and FC Goa officials after the ISL second season final in Margao in December last year.

FC Goa has on Monday filed an appeal before the ISL Appeals Commission challenging the fine and ban of the owners as well.

5. Mauresmo and Murray Announce Coaching Split

Andy Murray and Amelie Mauresmo announced on Monday that they had mutually agreed to end the Frenchwoman’s two-year stint as coach of the two-time major champion.

Under Mauresmo’s tutelage, Great Britain’s Murray won seven titles, including his first two on clay, and reached the final of the Australian Open in 2015 and 2016.

Working with Andy over the last two years has been a fantastic experience for me. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the great team of people he has around him. Dedicating enough time along with the travel has been a challenge for me. I wish him and team well and I hope he goes on to win many more titles.
