1. England take a 214-run lead as Australia bundle out for 60

England got closer to regaining the Ashes after a scintillating performance on Day 1 of the fourth Ashes Test in Trent Bridge on Thursday.

Stuart Broad ripped through the Australian batting order with 8 wickets for 15 runs in just 9.3 overs. After being all out for 60, Joe Root (124*) and Jonny Bairstow (73) added to Australia’s voes by adding 173 runs for the fourth wicket and taking England to 274/4 at stumps.

It’s pretty unbelievable. It’s not sunk in. We knew Trent Bridge would offer us something but we had to bowl well and take our catches.

3. Mohinder Amarnath could be reinstated as India’s chief selector

Former Indian player, Mohinder Amarnath could be reinstated as the Indian Cricket team’s chief selector by this September, reports suggested.

Amarnath was said to have been dropped from the selection committee in 2012 because he wanted Mahendra Singh Dhoni to step down as Test captain after losing 8 away Test matches in a row, as per reports.

Dhoni is a defensive captain who allows opposition to make a comeback in the game. His record is good at home pitches only like any other Indian captain. There is nothing special about it. We need aggressive captains like Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi to win matches abroad
-Mohinder Amarnath had said last year.

4. Costa’s injury a cause for concern for Mourinho

Chelasea’s manager Jose Mourinho has expressed that Diego Costa’s hamstring injury is a cause for concern.

Costa, who picked up the injury at the end of last season, missed out on the Community Shield match against Arsenal and also the friendly game against Italian side Fiorentina.

Costa is not ready. It is not a good feeling for him, it is not a good feeling for me. I have to be honest and say that it is a bit of a concern. A player that didn’t finish the season and (then) doesn’t start the season obviously doesn’t make me happy. The boy is trying hard but he has a problem. The scans show there is no injury so next day he trains, but the next day he is not comfortable. Then, 24 hours before the (Community Shield), we don’t know if he plays or doesn’t play.

5. Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere fractures his left fibula

Arsenal’s mid-fielder Jack Wilshere will be out of action for six to eight weeks as he has sustained a hair line fracture to his left fibula.

He picked up the injury after suffering a heavy tackle during training one day before the Community Shield victory against Arsenal.

This is a huge loss to the Gunners as Wilshere had missed five months of the previous season due to a left ankle injury.

He will not go through any surgery.

I had a bad surprise because it is a hairline crack in his fibula and there is minimal damage apart from bone damage.
- Arsene Wenger
