PV Sindhu triumphed over compatriot Saina Nehwal in a high-octane quarter-final match at the India Open Super Series in New Delhi on Friday.

The Rio Olympics silver medallist stayed calm throughout the match and eked out a 21-16, 22-20 victory over Nehwal.

In the semi-final, Sindhu will be up against the world number four Sung Ji Hyun from South Korea.

Even though Hyun is ranked one spot higher than Sindhu, the Indian will have the upper hand, because she has a better head-to-head record against the South Korean. Out of ten meetings, Sindhu has won six matches.

But in their last meeting in the Dubai World Superseries Finals, it was the South Korean who ended up as the winner with a scoreline of 15-21, 21-18, 15-21.

This year, Sindhu clinched the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships and reached the quarter-final stage of the All England Open Championships.

Hyun, who has played only one tournament this year, was knocked out in the semifinals of the All England Open earlier this month.
