Mumbai Indians are now placed third in the points table with eight points after registering a thrilling win over Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, 10 April.

Kieron Pollard was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his sensational 83 of 31 deliveries.

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle got Punjab off to a flier. Chris Gayle was at his usual best as he smacked his way to 63 of 36 balls before getting out to Jason Behrendorff.

Punjab seemed well on their way to a total in excess of 200, but Mumbai pulled things back after the dismissal of Gayle. Rahul played cautiously before blasting in the penultimate over where he smacked Hardik Pandya for 25 runs.

The last over saw Rahul getting to his Maiden IPL century. Punjab finished with 197-4 at the end of their innings.

Mumbai were placed at 94-4 at the end of 12 overs. Pollard, who promoted himself at number 4, made a sensational 83 of 31 deliveries before getting out in the last over with the side still needing 4 of 3 balls.

Mumbai eventually won the match at the last ball, which saw Alzarri Joseph hit the ball past the bowler to get 2 runs and take his side home.

Team Standings

Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore finds themselves at the bottom of the table having lost all their six encounters so far. Chennai Super Kings lead the table whereas, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Kings XI Punjab now hold the second, third and fourth places respectively.

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals have won three encounters each and will be looking for consistency heading into the second phase of the tournament. Rajasthan Royals have lost 4 of their 5 matches and will look to make strong amends going forward.

At the end of the group stage, the top four teams will qualify for the play-offs.
