The international governing body for football, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced two new award categories for women's foootball, in order to promote the game further across the globe.
The two new awards to be announced are - Women's goalkeeper of the year and a women's team of the year award.
This means that both men and women footballers will, from now on, receive accolades in the same categories at the FIFA ‘Best’ award ceremony in Milan in September.
According to ANI, FIFA's Deputy Secretary-General said in an official statement that since the groundbreaking FIFA Women's World Cup is being played this year, it is the right time to announce these awards.
11 Categories of Winners Now
Following are the 11 categories to be announced this year, after adding the women's team and goalkeeper accolades:
- -The Best Men's Player
- -The Best Women's Player
- -The Best Men's Coach
- -The Best Women's Coach
- -The Best Men's Goalkeeper
- -The Best Women's Goalkeeper
- -FIFA Men's World 11
- -FIFA Women's World 11
- -FIFA Puskas Award
- -FIFA Fair Play Award
- -FIFA Fan Award
The award ceremony will be held in Milan’s Teatro Alla Scala on 23 September.
