Second April is remembered as one of the golden days in the history of Indian cricket. It was on this day that the Indian cricket team, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, won the ICC World Cup. The skipper hit the winning runs, defeating Sri Lanka in the final and winning the cup after a dry-spell of 28 years.

Virat Kohli, the current captain of the Indian team, reminiscing the day, shared a message saying “ 02/04/2011 is engraved in my and every Indian's heart forever.”

Not only Kohli, but Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was also gripped by nostalgia. He too shared an inspirational message with his fans.

It was a close fought match which could have turned either way but Gautam Gambhir’s terrific innings of 97 runs followed by Dhoni and Yuvraj’s explosive batting saved the day for India – making history.

“For a country obsessed with hundreds, mine is a 97 the nation will remember,” said Gautam Gambhir, reminiscing the final in an exclusive chat with The Quint.
