Batsman Yusuf Pathan refused to walk off after the umpire ruled him out during a Ranji Trophy match between Baroda and Mumbai at Vadodara’s Reliance Stadium, on Thursday, 12 December.
Baroda, while chasing a huge target of 534 runs, bundled out for 224 runs in their second innings.
In the 48th over of the match Yusuf lost his wicket to Shashank Attarde. The 37-year-old played a forward defense which went straight to the forward short leg fielder.
The shot was followed by a huge appeal by the fielding side. The on-field umpire took some time but eventually raised his finger, ending Pathan’s inning. However, Yusuf refused to walk off and instead was seen waving his hands towards the umpire to show his disappointment
Eventually, it was Mumbai’s senior player and India’s Test vice captain, Ajinkya Rahane who came upto him and convinced him to walk off.
The win gave Mumbai all six points.
