After he made a successful debut in the Indian Premier League, Rashid Khan had said that while he enjoyed the T20 competition, playing Test cricket was his ultimate dream.

On Thursday, the 18-year-old’s dream became a possibility as Afghanistan and Ireland were voted in as full members of the ICC, meaning they can now play Test matches against the world’s elite countries.

By becoming the first countries to receive test status since Bangladesh in 2000, they took the number of Test-playing nations to 12.

Afghanistan qualified for its first World Cup in 2015 after gaining ODI status only in 2011. Ireland has appeared in the last three World Cups.

But did the two nations deserve to rise in the ranks of international cricket?
