Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Meets PM Modi, Offers to Resign

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, on 23 August, that he took “full moral responsibility” for the two train derailments that have occurred over the last five days. According to reports, Prabhu has also offered to resign from his post.

Prabhu tweeted that he had met with PM Narendra Modi over the issue. “Hon’ble PM has asked me to wait,” he tweeted.

In a series of tweets, the railway minister said that he was pained by the two accidents.

Prabhu tweeted that in less that three years of his ministership, he has “devoted his blood and sweat for the betterment of the Railways”.

He also added that that under the leadership of the prime minister, he tried to “overcome decades of neglect”.

Prabhu’s offer comes after Railway Board Chairman AK Mittal tendered his resignation on 23 August in the wake of the two tragic train derailments.
