For the last few decades, the former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has been a name to reckon with. She has gone from being a student activist to the First Lady to a globetrotting stateswoman who now aspires for the White House for the second time.
But it hasn’t been an easy journey, not just in her political career path but also in her personal life as well.
1947: Born on October 26, in Chicago, she graduated in the top 5% of her class of 1965, she was also a member of the student council in her high school.
1960: At age 13, she helped canvass Chicago’s South Side where she found evidence of electoral fraud against Republican candidate Richard Nixon US Presidential elections.
1968: She became the president of Wellesley College in Massachusetts.
1971: She joined Yale Law School and began dating Bill Clinton, also a law student at Yale. She volunteered at New Haven Legal Services and was considered an exceptional attorney.
1975: They were married in their living room of their house in Arkansas, Washington.
1980: Bill and Hillary had their daughter Chelsea
1993: Bill Clinton became President of the United States and Hillary became the first ever First lady to hold a post-graduate degree. She also played critical roles in matters of public policy.
1995: Hillary Clinton visited India for the first time with daughter Chelsea. They visited the Taj Mahal in Agra.
1997: Bill Clinton was re-elected as President.
1998: Investigations revealed that the President had had extramarital relations with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
2000: Hillary became the first ever First Lady in the US to be a candidate for elected office and contested for the Senator of New York state. She won with 55% of the votes.
2006: She got re-elected as the Senator of New York state.
2007: She contested as a candidate for the Presidential elections in 2008 but lost to Barack Obama, the current President of the United States.
2009: Hillary Clinton was officially appointed as the US Secretary of State, first former First Lady to serve in the United States Cabinet.
2013: Announced that she would quit her role as US Secretary of State. The position was later taken by John Kerry.
2015: She announced on Twitter that she will contest in the upcoming Presidential elections in 2016.
