The internet media company Buzzfeed won’t run Donald Trump’s advertisements anymore, as they have backed out of an advertisment deal with the Republican National Committee. Buzzfeed has also blocked all of Donald Trump’s existing advertisements on its website.
The deal with the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Buzzfeed was made sometime in April, for displaying political advertisements on the website. The whole deal is estimated to be worth $1.3 Million.
According to a story by The Guardian, Buzzfeed Founder Jonah Peretti said that like the ads for cigarettes, which they also block, Buzzfeed will block US Presidential Candidate Trump’s advertisements, because the nominee is “hazardous to our health.”
In an email to Buzzfeed’s staff, Peretti said that the decision came because of Trump’s campaign rhetoric, which includes statements such as banning Muslims from entering the country, threatening to reduce freedom of the press, and a plethora of offensive statements towards women, immigrants and foreign nationals. The founder said that Trump’s campaign would directly oppose the freedom of Buzzfeed’s employees.
