At least six people were reported dead and over 150 injured after the Karachi-bound Awam Express collided with a freight train near Multan, Pakistan early on Thursday, officials and railways sources said.

The incident took place near Bucch railway station in Sher Shah area when a man was reportedly run over by a freight train and the driver stopped it to remove the body, DCO Nadir Chattha told Geo News. The Awam Express that was heading on the same line collided with the stationary goods train, overturning four bogies of the Awam Express.

The collision wrecked the engine and power van, and overturned four bogies of the Awam Express that had started its journey from Peshawar, an official reported.

Ten out of the 150 injured are said to be in a serious condition. Three people trapped inside damaged carriages were also saved, said rescue workers.

A delay in response by rescue services was initially observed due to Eid holidays, according to sources.
