Over a week after a suicide bomber rammed into a CRPF convoy in Jammu and kashmir's Pulwama district, killing over 40 CRPF jawans, the security forces continue to reel from shock, and tons of fake news from the tragedy.
From false images being circulated as those of the martyred jawans, to old videos of the army supposedly killing terrorists, the CRPF has been busy battling fake news along with their grief.
And how is the CRPF doing this? Speaking to The Quint, the Director General of the CRPF, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, said the force has issued an advisory requesting citizens to alert them in case of any false news that might be doing the rounds in relation to the attack.
“We have put up an advisory and we have asked people to report to our site if they come across such false photos or news. Definitely it is their responsibility to show us that there is something on the web that can be used to inflame passion.”
Additionally, the CRPF has also advised the citizens to approach the concerned police station in case they come across any post.
The CRPF now has a fact-checking team which sits out of Delhi and also has other regional offices, where a team of about 15 people bust upto 5 fake posts a day.
Speaking to BOOM, M Dinakaran, DIG and chief spokesperson of the force had earlier opined that the fake posts were an insult to jawans who were martyred in the attack, and that they had not laid down their lives "so that their death could become the cause for communal hatred.”
