Osmania University (OU) has declined a request made by student organisations regarding Rahul Gandhi's visit to the university, citing security issues and the fact that Rahul Gandhi is under a special security coverage, reports ANI.
According to The Indian Express, Rahul Gandhi was supposed to speak at an event at Osmania University. The University Joint Director issued a statement saying:
Osmania University has declined the request made by student organisations on Mr Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the University due to security issues, as he is under special security coverage.
The students' body has, however, protested against this, alleging that the university cowed down to pressure from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government.
Telangana Congress President N Uttam Kumar Reddy told The Indian Express,
OU initially agreed to let us organise the event at the hockey ground. Who must have pressured them to decline now? Who is the one who’s scared that Rahul will talk of security, safety, and welfare of minorities? Who is the one that’s scared that Rahul will question unfulfilled promises like fee reimbursement to students and a job for every family? Everyone knows who pressurised OU to decline permission.
