Kerala’s upper caste Hindu Nair outfit, Nair Service Society (NSS), has alleged – through an editorial – that BJP tried to create a rift within NSS by mooting the idea of a broad Hindu identity. It added that the civic poll results proved that BJP – SNDP alliance was a failure and if BJP had contested independently, they would have won more seats.
NSS has declared that its policy of maintaining distance from all political parties was right. It has on many occasions, denied joining hands with BJP in the state.
Though BJP reportedly had plans for a broader Hindu alliance in cooperation with NSS and with backward Hindu Ezhava outfit, Sree Narayana Paripalana Dharma (SNPD) Yogam, eyeing a Hindu vote bank, NSS kept away from all political activities.
The article also criticised BJP Chief V Muraleedharan’s attempt to ally with NSS as being inappropriate for a politician. It also alleged that BJP tried to insult NSS and levelled false allegations against NSS General Secretary Sukumaran Nair.
BJP is aiming at a Hindu vote bank through a broad Hindu alliance, keeping in mind the coming Assembly elections of 2016. But NSS’s firm decision to keep away from BJP will be a setback to the party as the SNDP alliance was not successful as expected, in the recent Kerala civic polls.
Earlier while speaking to The News Minute, Sukumaran Nair had said that the ethics of NSS doesn’t match this broad alliance.
Our community and nation should develop by ensuring secularism and democracy. That is the NSS’ century-old motto. Like any other religion, Hinduism also protects the needs of its members. For that, a broad alliance is not needed. Broad Hindu alliance doesn’t suit the ethics of NSS.Sukumaran Nair
