In a clear sign that politics has no room for enmity PM Narendra Modi went to Saifai, a small town in UP for a wedding that has united two of his biggest political opponents.
Modi attended the pre-wedding bash of the kin of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was also there.
Saifai, the hometown of Mulayam, is all decked up for his grandnephew Tej Pratap Singh and Lalu’s youngest daughter Raj Lakshmi’s tilak ceremony. The Indian Express reports that arrangements for the day include 550 super quality ‘Swiss cottages’ inside a stadium, 250 ‘ordinary’ cottages for 1,500 people on a college ground, and food for more than a lakh served in four ‘German hangars’ and 100 water tankers. Around 2,000 policemen and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the village for security and ensuring smooth traffic movement.
Modi’s visit to the Yadav belt is being seen in the light of nine ordinances that the government wants to pass in Parliament. He will need Mulayam’s and Lalu’s support in the Rajya Sabha. Mulayam and Lalu have been bitter critics of Modi in the past but it seemed all was forgotten as the three shook hands and posed for photographs.
