1. Missing IAF Plane’s Wreckage Spotted in Arunachal Forest
The wreckage of a missing AN-32 military transport plane carrying 13 people was spotted in a remote mountainous region of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday, 11 June , eight days after it disappeared from radar screens and triggered frantic efforts by the Indian Air Force and the army to locate the Soviet-origin aircraft.
A Mi-17 helicopter, among the scores of aircraft involved in the massive search, sighted the wreckage at 12,000 feet near a small village called Lipo that has a population of about 120, a statement by the Indian Air Force said.

2. Supreme Court Orders Immediate Release of UP Journalist
Holding liberty to be sacrosanct and non-negotiable, the Supreme Court on Tuesday, 11 June ordered a freelance journalist’s “immediate” release from judicial custody after his objectionable social media posts against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath landed him in a jail.
Deprecating the severity of the action in arresting the Delhi-based journalist for sharing a social media post, the vacation bench of Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Ajay Rastogi granted bail to the journalist saying, “This order is passed in view of the excessiveness of the action taken” by the Uttar Pradesh police.

3. Gujarat on Alert as Cyclonic Storm Vayu Inches Towards Coast
Cyclonic storm “Vayu” has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, forcing authorities to put Gujarat on high alert. The State authorities have swung into action, ordering closure of schools for three days in coastal districts and deploying teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and asking fishermen to return to the coast from high seas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday, 11 June said the speed of “Vayu” had increased to 17 km per hour and was located in the Arabian Sea, about 350 km west-northwest of Goa, 410 km south-southwest of Mumbai and 530 km nearly south of Veraval (Gujarat).

4. 2-Year-Old Sangrur Boy Declared Dead After Being Pulled Out of Borewell
The 109-hour-long rescue operation by the NDRF and Sangrur administration failed to take out two-year-old Fatehveer Singh alive from the 150-ft-deep borewell.
The boy was declared dead after he was pulled out of the borewell.
The NDRF team on Tuesday, 11 June retrieved the child at around 5.15 am amid allegations of the use of crude equipment, but the administration denied this.
“Locals had approached the Sangrur administration on Thursday night and tried to convince them that they could retrieve the child with an iron pipe with a hook fixed on its top. But the administration did not allow this. On Monday night, the administration and the NDRF called the same person and pulled out the boy using the same pipe. Had they used it earlier, Fatehveer would have been alive today,” alleged the locals standing outside Fatehveer’s house while showing the pipe.

5. A Third of Deputy Secys from Outside, Govt Starts Work to Induct 400 Directors
Not just at the Joint Secretary (JS) rank, the NDA government plans to recruit outside experts at the lower Deputy Secretary (DS) and Director level, too, in its move to bolster efficiency and deepen expertise in Central government administration.
Sources said that on 3 June, Secretary (Personnel) asked officials of his Department of Personnel and Training to prepare a formal proposal for inducting an estimated 400 domain experts from the private sector to fill DS/Director posts in the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS).
This is expected to take away more than 60 percent of the 650 posts at the DS/Director level under the CSS which are available to officers from the three all-India services and 37 participating services such as Income Tax, Customs, Railways, Telecom, Posts, Trade etc, said sources.

6. More People Line up at Mumbai Hospital for Sex-Reaffirmation Surgery
At the state-run St George’s Hospital in Mumbai, a former electrician with the Assam government, Rita Devi is looking to reconstruct her life. Motivated by Lalit Salve, a cop from Beed who underwent genital reconstructive surgery in May 2018, the 34-year-old has undergone the first surgery to reaffirm her sex and is now waiting for other test reports to proceed with further surgeries and medical procedures.
Devi is not the only one who is inspired by Lalit Salve. He seems to have inspired many to look for options to undergo sex-change surgeries to align their physical self with their gender identity. Enquiries are pouring into the Out-Patients Department (OPD) for gender reaffirming surgeries, opened at St George’s Hospital in September last year, from across the country.
According to Dr Madhukar Gaikwad, a medical superintendent at St George’s Hospital in Fort, the hospital has received 20 to 25 cases so far from people who wish to undergo sex-reaffirming surgeries. “Most of the cases are in process,” he said. “The various tests, counselling and procedures take time.”

7. ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: How Worried Are Fans About Shikhar Dhawan's Fractured Thumb
In what could turn out to be a big blow for Team India, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup for three weeks because of a fractured thumb.
Dhawan suffered the injury when a Nathan Coulter-Nile bouncer thudded onto his thumb during India's clash against the Aussies. Dhawan continued to play through the injury scoring a match-winning 117 off 109 balls.
Shikhar Dhawan has an uncanny ability to perform at his best in ICC events. He now has six centuries in ICC tournaments (World Cup+Champions Trophy), joining the likes of Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly, at seven centuries each, have done better.
Dhawan will miss the 16 June India-Pakistan match, which for many Indian fans is as important as the World Cup final.

8. India Staring at Longest Heatwave in 3 Decades
Nearly two-thirds of India sizzled on Tuesday, 11 June under a spell of a heatwave that is on course to becoming the longest ever as scalding temperatures killed four train passengers, drained water supplies, and drove thousands of tourists to hill stations already bursting at the seams.
Across large swathes of northern, central and peninsular India, the mercury breached the 45 degree mark, including in Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, Churu and Bikaner in Rajasthan, Hisar and Bhiwani in Haryana, Patiala in Punjab, and Gwalior and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
The Capital, which sweltered on its hottest June day in history on Monday (48 degrees Celsius) recorded a maximum temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius at Palam in spite of a spell of light rain in the morning.

After an extensive interaction with secretaries from all Union ministries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to convene the first meeting of his new council of 57 ministers on Wednesday, 12 June. At the meeting, he is expected to outline the roadmap of his government for the next five years.
