As Sunday morning and Rahul’s Ramlila rally approached, a trend-war began on Twitter with both #PappuFarce and #KisaanVirodhiNarendraModi vying for the top spot.
With Narendra Modi’s speech in the morning and Rahul Gandhi’s much anticipated speech scheduled at the rally, it was a war of speeches.
The Quint gets you a ringside view of how it played out on social media:
Sonia, Not Rahul the Real Star
While most people agreed that Rahul Gandhi’s speech was free of significant bloopers, it was Sonia Gandhi and her direct, tenacious speech which garnered appreciation.
However, there were also those who believed that Rahul’s 56-day sabbatical had done no good to his oratorical skills.
A ‘Spirited’ Rally
A series of tweets from a noted senior journalist about allegedly drunk farmers at the rally caused quite a furore. Soon, Twitter was filled with many jokes on the ‘spirit’ of the rally and some vehement comebacks from the Congress party.
Speech Wars
On one hand was Narendra Modi arguing that BJP is pro-poor. And on the other, Rahul attacking NDA government for its anti-farmer policies.
Twitter was abuzz with clash of the speeches. But who won this round?
Where there is Rahul Gandhi, could jokes be far behind?
Fancy a little tomato ketchup?
Meanwhile, on the Sidelines
Manmohan Singh’s speech at the rally made Twitterati a little nostalgic for good ol’ times.
But it looked like corporate India wasn’t very happy with Congress’ pro-poor stand, with this tweet from Kiran Mazumdar Shaw attracting a fair bit of criticism.
The rally was also witness to ‘clash of clans’ as supporters of Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda raised slogans against President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Ashok Tanwar.
However, among all the brouhaha and noise, are the concerns of the Indian farmer getting lost? Is there a need to look beyond political rhetoric and show of strength?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
