After the controversy surrounding the ‘prostitute’ remark directed at BSP supremo Mayawati by senior BJP leader Dayashankar Singh, the latter’s family has now lashed out at Mayawati, filing an FIR against her, and other members of her party.

The FIR has been filed for the alleged use of foul language by BSP workers during a protest held against Singh on Thursday.

Now BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit has announced protests against BSP across all districts of the state. Using the rhetoric of “Beti ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein (BJP fights for the honour of the daughter)”, the party said the protests will be held in favour of Singh’s daughter.

Singh’s wife Swati had decried the use of foul language used in the BSP protests. She said:

My daughter, who is a minor, is in a state of shock after the incident. My husband is in politics, but we have no political connection. The manner in which BSP workers acted and the language used by them during protest was derogatory.

Jannat Jahan, a BSP party leader, courted controversy with her outburst. “Whosoever gets me his (Dayashankar’s) tongue, Jannat Jahan will give him Rs 50 lakh,” she said.

The BSP leader’s remarks evoked a sharp reaction from the BJP, which said the party had already acted against Dayashankar and the matter should not be politicised.

The workers protesting in front of the Ambedkar statue in Hazratganj, Lucknow had also displayed banners with foul language printed on them.

Singh’s family in return has lodged an FIR against Mayawati, saying it was a question about the integrity of women.

Tetra Devi, Singh’s mother, met the Hazratganj police and submitted the complaint that she, her daughter, daughter-in-law and grand daughter were abused by BSP men who raised derogatory slogans during the protest. She alleged:

There was an attempt to instigate violence and riots during the protest by highlighting differences on caste lines.

Meanwhile, Singh is still on the run.

Raids were conducted by police overnight to trace him. He has been expelled from his position of BJP Vice President in Uttar Pradesh, while Mayawati is clamouring to have him removed from the party altogether.

Singh had earlier likened Mayawati to a ‘prostitute’ resulting in his expulsion and severe condemnation from his party and other political leaders.
